Distance Perception Shaping Plug-in

Distance is a macOS audio plug-in (AAX / AU / VST3) designed to change the perceived distance of a sound source in a more natural way than simple reverb or EQ. When you want something to feel a few meters farther away, traditional tools often miss the mark. It is built for a subtle kind of depth control: in some mixes the change may feel small at first, but when that slight front-to-back shift is exactly what you need, Distance can be surprisingly useful. This first release is just the starting point, and the algorithm will keep improving over time.

Version 1.0.0 is out now. The effect is intentionally subtle, but for the right front-to-back placement problem it can be a very practical tool, and more refinements are planned.

Release history

v1.0.0 — First public release.

Current release.

  • First public release of Distance for Apple Silicon macOS.
  • Built around subtle, mix-friendly perceived distance shaping rather than an obvious effect.
  • Useful when reverb or simple tonal darkening does not place a source naturally enough.
  • Further refinements and algorithm updates are planned.

Typical use cases

Vocals

Move a vocal slightly back in the mix without relying on an obvious reverb tail.

Dialogue / FX

Help dialogue, foley, or effects feel a few meters farther away in a more believable way.

Mix depth

Create clearer front-to-back placement when EQ and reverb alone do not quite get there.
